Tricon Communication Module (TCM)
The Tricon Communication Module (TCM) is compatible with Tricon systems version 10.0 and later. It enables communication between the Tricon controller and various devices such as TriStation 1131, other Tricon or Trident controllers, Modbus master and slave devices, and external hosts through Ethernet networks.
- Each TCM includes four serial ports, two network ports, and one debug port (for Triconex use).
- Serial ports can be configured as Modbus master or slave. Serial Port #1 supports Modbus or Trimble GPS, while Serial Port #4 supports Modbus or TriStation interface.
- Aggregate data rate of 460.8 kilobits per second for all four serial ports.
- Standard Modbus devices can communicate with Tricon via TCM using assigned aliases for Tricon variables.
Diagnostics
- Comprehensive diagnostics ensure the health of each MP, I/O module, and communication channel.
- Hardware majority-voting circuit records and masks transient faults.
- Persistent faults diagnosed and faulty modules can be hot-replaced.
- MP diagnostics tasks include verifying fixed-program memory and static RAM.
Indicators on Main Processors
- PASS: Module has passed self-diagnostic tests.
- FAULT: Module has a fault and requires replacement.
- ACTIVE: Module is executing the user-written control program.
- MAINT1 and MAINT2: Maintenance indicators.
- COM TX and COM RX: Transmitting and receiving data across COMM bus.
- I/O TX and I/O RX: Transmitting and receiving data across I/O bus.
Physical Description of Model 3008 Main Processors
- Microprocessor: Motorola MPC860, 32-bit, 50 MHz.
- Memory:
- 16 MB DRAM (non-battery backed-up).
- 32 KB SRAM, battery backed-up.
- 6 MB Flash PROM.
- TriBus Communication Rate:
- 25 megabits per second.
- 32-bit CRC protected.
- 32-bit DMA, fully isolated.
- I/O Bus and Communication Bus Processors: Motorola MPC860, 32-bit, 50 MHz.
Main Processor Modules (Model 3008 MP)
- Available for Tricon v9.6 and later systems.
- Three MPs required in Main Chassis of every Tricon system.
- Each MP independently communicates with I/O subsystem and executes user-written control program.
Sequence of Events (SOE) and Time Synchronization
- During each scan, MPs monitor designated discrete variables for state changes (events).
- MPs save current variable state and time stamp in SOE block buffer.
- Time synchronization ensures consistent time base for effective SOE time-stamping.
