Overview:
The Foxboro FBM221/228 modules act as interfaces, connecting FOUNDATION Fieldbus field devices to the I/A Series system. FBM220 handles one H1 segment, while FBM221 integrates four H1 channel isolated fieldbus segments.
FOUNDATION Fieldbus is a bidirectional digital communication bus designed for integrating process measurement and control devices, serving as a digital alternative to the 4-20 mA standard. Field devices can locate up to 1900 m (6270 ft) from the FBM220/221 termination assembly using shielded twisted-pair wiring.
FBM221/228 support standard FOUNDATION Fieldbus function blocks (AI, AO, DI, and DO), transmitting block parameters to the I/A Series control station over the I/A Series high-speed redundant Ethernet fieldbus.
Isolation maintains between the H1 segments and the high-speed Ethernet fieldbus, and the FBM termination assembly supplies power to the field devices.
Key Features:
- Conform to FOUNDATION Fieldbus specs, support all registered H1 field devices, allowing use across manufacturers.
- Support dynamic variables as connectable values in control strategies configured in the control station.
- Provide complete access to all field device variables through upper-level application programs.
- Integrate H1 device data into an I/A Series program format, ensuring consistent operator displays.
- Determine bus powering depends on the termination assembly type, with up to 300 mA of power in a non-intrinsic safety termination assembly.
- Include a Link Active Scheduler (LAS) for each H1 segment.
- Automatically detect and schedule devices on the H1 segment, expedite startup and commissioning.
- FOUNDATION Fieldbus segments conform to ANSI/ISA S-50, IEC 61158, and CENELEC EN 50170.
- Suitable for installing in Class1, Division 2, and Zone 2 locations.
Intelligent Field Device Link Master:
FBM221/228 serve as intelligent field device link masters, facilitating device scheduling on each H1 segment. A publisher/subscriber relationship guarantees deterministic communication.
FBM221/228 receive digital messages from field devices in engineering units. They collect analog inputs and outputs of connectable variables, making them available to the I/A Series system in IEEE 32-bit floating-point format. They also supply security information, including AI and AO variable statuses, diagnostic information, and message checking.
Compact, Rugged Design:
FBM221/228 feature a compact design with a rugged extruded aluminum exterior, ensuring physical and electrical protection for circuits. Enclosures designed for mounting provide various levels of environmental protection, even in harsh environments per ISA Standard S71.04.
Modules can remove or replace without disrupting field device termination cabling, power, or communication cabling. They mount on a baseplate accommodating up to eight FBMs. The baseplate can be DIN rail or rack-mounted and includes signal connectors for the FBMs, redundant independent DC power, and I/O cable connections.
LEDs incorporated into the module’s front provide visual indications of the Fieldbus Module’s operational status and communication activity on individual H1 segments.
